Western Illinois Downs Chicago State Women's Hoops 87-52

MACOMB, Ill. – Chicago State women's basketball couldn't come up with a road non-conference victory on Tuesday (Jan. 8) evening as Western Illinois defeated the Cougars 87-52 at Waste Management Court at Western Hall.
 
Western Illinois busted out of the gates hot from beyond the arc with four of the Leathernecks' first seven baskets good for three points. WIU's Saule Kontautaite made her first three attempts before the game's first media timeout. The Cougars found themselves down 16 points before pushing it back to eight at 34-26 at the 2:49 mark on a layup by sophomore Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville). Western Illinois retook a 16-point advantage by scoring the final eight points of the half and led 42-26 at the break. Chicago State found most of their success inside and at the line. The Cougars scored 14 points in the paint in the first half and made all eight of their free throw attempts. Chicago State couldn't get any closer in the second half.
 
WIU finished the game making 14-of-31 shots from beyond the arc.
 
Sophomore Jackie Jones (Detroit, Mich./Martin Luther King) (Detroit, Mich./Martin Luther King) led Chicago State with 17 points. Jones went 11-of-14 from the free throw line. Sophomore Tierra Williams (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup) (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup) scored 11 points with six rebounds. Kontautaite led Western Illinois with 13 points.
 
Western Illinois improves to 8-7. Chicago State falls to 1-15. The two teams will meet again on Jan. 29 when the Leathernecks come to Chicago.

The Cougars open Great West Conference play on Saturday (Jan. 12) at Utah Valley. The game is set to start at 3:00 p.m. MT.
