CHICAGO – Sophomore Jasmine Collins (Richton Park, Ill./Rich South) (Richton Park, Ill./Rich South) scored a career-high 14 points, with five rebounds and two assists in Chicago State's 86-45 setback to Akron in a non-conference women's basketball contest at the Jones Convocation Center on Thursday (Jan. 3).

Collins scored all 14 of her points in the second half. As did sophomore Tierra Williams (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup) (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup) who finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. The Cougars opened the game cold from the field, and it cost the Cougars after Akron scored the game's first 12 points. Chicago State found more success in the second half from the free throw line. After going just 3-of-4 from the charity stripe in the first half. Chicago State went 18-of-25 in the second. However Chicago State's slow start doomed the Cougars' chances.

“Out-manned, out-hustled, out-worked,” Chicago State head coach Angela Jackson said. “Just weren't ready to play.”

Akron's Sina King scored a game-high 23 points. Rachel Tecca added 20 points and seven rebounds for the Zips.

Akron improves to 9-4 while Chicago State falls to 1-14. The Cougars play at Western Illinois on Tuesday (Jan. 8) in a non-conference contest. The game tips at 7:00 p.m.
