BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Chicago State women's track and field racked up three victories on the day at the Titan Open hosted by Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday (Jan. 26).
“Today was the best performance of the season as a team,” Chicago State head coach
Craig Collins said. “We are light in terms of depth, but as a whole the effort was right were we needed it to be. PR's (personal records) were plentiful today.”
Junior
Sharifah Robertson (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) won the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.84. She bested the second place competitor by one hundredth of a second.
“Sharifah executed to near perfection in the 60 meters,” Collins said. “She'll never admit it, but I'm sure she is pleased with herself.”
In the 200 meter dash, freshman
Alisha Wren (Chicago, Ill./Percy L. Julian) (Chicago, Ill./Percy L. Julian) compiled a time of 27.15, good for sixth. Wren also placed fifth in the 60 meter dash (8.05).
Junior
Jaya Emerson (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell) (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell) won both throwing events She won the weight throw with a toss of 15.21 meters. She took home the shot put title thanks to a 12.93 toss, besting the second place finisher by more than a meter.
“Jaya is improving after each meet and to rack up two wins in both throws means she is back to full health,” Collins said.
In the 400 meters, freshman
Joshlynn Scott (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood) (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood) grabbed a second place finish with a time of 1:01.56. Sophomore
Pearl Chitava (Harare, Zimbabwe/The Heritage School) (Harare, Zimbabwe/Western Kentucky) took seventh (1:03.68).
The Cougars return to action on Feb. 1-2 at Notre Dame's Meyo Invite.
