CHICAGO – Behind 19 points by Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) and 18 from Tierra Williams (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup) (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup), Chicago State women's basketball picked up their second consecutive Great West Conference victory of the season Saturday (Jan. 26) afternoon with a 73-62 decision over Houston Baptist.

The 73 points represent a season-high for the Cougars.

CSU scored six points in the final 55 seconds of the first half to lead 38-28 at halftime. It would be all the breathing room Chicago State would need as the Cougars opened a lead as large as 17 in the second half before defeating the Huskies by 11 points.

Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) finished 7-for-18 from the floor while making all five of her free throw attempts in her season-high 18 points. She also added five steals. Tierra Williams (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup)' 18 points accounted for all of the Cougars' bench scoring in the game as Chicago State went just six deep in the contest.

“(Tierra) is probably one of our best scorers and we're bringing her off the bench so we need her to come in and give us something off the bench,” Chicago State head coach Angela Jackson said. "Thats kinda what her role has been all season."

Sophomore Jackie Jones (Detroit, Mich./Martin Luther King) (Detroit, Mich./Martin Luther King) scored 12 points and set a career-high with nine assists and five steals.

Chicago State forced 30 Houston Baptist turnovers. It is the second time this year Chicago State has forced 30 or more turnovers in a contest.

“For the first time all season we've seen a total team effort tonight,” Jackson said. “I thought we played team basketball. Defensively we were probably aggressive as we've been all season.”

The win was also fueled by the Cougars' 19-of-21 performance at the free throw line. They made all 10 of their first half attempts.

The Cougars are now 7-0 all-time against Houston Baptist.

The win improves Chicago State to 3-18 overall and most importantly 2-1 in the GWC. Houston Baptist falls to 4-16 (0-2 GWC). The Cougars have a quick turnaround as Western Illinois comes to down on Tuesday (Jan. 29) for a non-conference contest at 7 p.m. The game will be aired live on Lakeshore Public Television.
