CHICAGO – Chicago State men's tennis dropped a pair of dual meets on Sunday (Jan. 20). The Cougars lost in the morning to Western Illinois 6-1 and fell in the afternoon at Northwestern 6-0.
In the morning competition against the Leathernecks, sophomore
Rashley Yeremia (Jakarta, Indonesia/) (Jakarta, Indonesia) defeated Ben Yoe 6-2, 6-3 in No. 3 singles. The Cougars took the No. 1 doubles spot as sophomores
Sergiu Muresan (Roman, Romania/) (Roman, Romania) and
Mario Noboa (Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Ecuador/) (Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Ecuador) edged Yue and Patrick Hammers 8-1. However the Cougars dropped the final two doubles events to give the doubles point to Western Illinois.
“We came out flat in doubles and I had to light a fire under them,” head coach
Jack Barton said. “A lot more energy was given in singles but mentally we have to stay in the fight. But the match was closer than it looked.”
In the nightcap in Evanston, the teams played singles competition at Northwestern first, with the Wildcats taking all six matches. With the match decided, doubles competition was scratched.
