CHICAGO – Chicago State men's tennis opened the 2013 spring campaign on Saturday (Jan. 19) evening with a visit to cross-town rival UIC. The Flames took down the Cougars 7-0.
In doubles play, the tightest contest was the duo of mid-year newcomer freshman
Jean Paul Jones (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Cruz del Sur) (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and sophomore
Julian Chavez (Bogota, Colombia/) (Bogota, Colombia) falling to Maurizio Feoli and Christopher Cole 8-6 in No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Chavez fell 6-3, 6-2 to Alan Riefer.
“For a first match of the season we played tough,” Chicago State assistant coach
Keith Williams said. “We have some things to work on but we played tough.”
The Cougars are 0-1 on the season. UIC is 1-0.
Chicago State hosts Western Illinois on Sunday (Jan. 20) in a non-conference match scheduled for 9:00 a.m. at Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet Club
