Chicago State women's hoops (1-16) opens a four-game homestand on Thursday (Jan. 17) with a visit by Summit League member Nebraska Omaha (11-5). Start time for the non-conference contest is slated for 7:00 p.m. at the Jones Convocation Center.
SERIES HISTORY -
Thursday night's contest will be the first ever meeting between Nebraska Omaha and Chicago State. The Mavericks of Nebraska Omaha are members of the Summit League and lost at Western Illinois in a conference game 71-44 in their last contest. Chicago State is 0-3 all time against teams from Nebraska. They are 0-1 against Nebraska and 0-2 against Creighton.
DESTINATION: WAC 2013-14 -
Chicago State has accepted an invitation to join the Western Athletic Conference. The Cougars will join the WAC for the 2013-14 season.
TWO SIGN NLI's -
Jessica Cerda (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) and Konner Harris (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney) have each signed on to join the Cougars in 2013-14. Cerda is a 5-10 guard who was named a Top 50 player by the Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune. Harris is a 5-9 guard broke her school's career 3-point record (133) and single game scoring record (49).
FREE FOR A REASON -
The Cougars have had 20 plus free throw attempts in five of their last seven games. Before this most recent stretch, Chicago State had just four games of 20 or more free throw attempts in the first 10 games. Against Western Illinois (Jan. 8), the Cougars set season-highs for free throw attempts (27) and makes (20).

Jackie Jones (Detroit, Mich./Martin Luther King) went 11-for-14 from the free throw line. The 11
made free throws a single-game high in the Great West Conference this year.

Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) picked up her second career double-double on Saturday (Dec. 29) against Southern Illinois with 12 points and 10 rebounds. She almost had her third on Jan. 3 against Akron, finishing with 10 rebounds and nine points.

WHAT'S UP DOCK? -
The 2013-13 Cougars have to make up for the loss of
Janay Dockery (Detroit, MI/Martin Luther King). Her 18.1 points per game average in 2011-12 led the GWC. Her average was nearly five points more than the second place finisher. Dockery also led the GWC in steals (3.2). Dockerey isn't far though. Dockery is serving as a student-assistant coach this year as she finishes up her degree.

IN NON CONFERENCE PLAY -
The 2012-13 Chicago State schedule features non-conference games with eight NCAA Division I conferences. The slate includes contests with schools from the SEC (Missouri), Big Ten (Northwestern) and Conference USA (Rice).
