CHICAGO - Chicago State men's tennis held its first three-match homestand of the season last weekend at the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet and Tennis Club. The Green and White (0-7) fell to Green Bay and IUPUI by identical 7-0 scores on Feb. 17 and Feb. 18 before closing the weekend with a 6-1 defeat to South Dakota State on Feb. 19.
The weekend's highlight came Sunday in the South Dakota State match where freshman Mario Noboa (Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Ecuador/) (Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Ecuador) picked up his first career singles victory against Justin Pyle at No. 1 Singles with identical 6-2 scores.
The No. 2 doubles team of freshmen Sergiu Muresan (Roman, Romania/) (Roman, Romania) and Rashley Yeremia (Jakarta, Indonesia/) (Jakarta, Indonesia) also picked up their first doubles victory of the season at after posting an 8-3 win against the Jackrabbit duo of Justin Pyle and Dominic Rossetto.
The Cougars showed some promise to improve into their seventh match into the season. Freshman Julian Chavez (Bogota, Colombia/) (Bogota, Columbia) also showed great effort, but lost at No. 2 singles 6-7, 6-4, 10-3 to Dominic Rossetto.
The Cougars will travel to Fort Wayne, Ind. Saturday to take on Wright State at 6 p.m., central time.
