Marlowe’s Career-High 23 Points Helps CSU Women’s Basketball Capture 63-41 Home Win over Houston Baptist

CHICAGO – Senior Natalie Marlowe (South Milwaukee, WI/South Milwaukee) (South Milwaukee, Wis.) scored a career-best 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field to lead Chicago State to a 63-41 Great West Conference women's basketball win over visiting Houston Baptist tonight at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center.

The Green and White opened the game with a 25-4 scoring drive in the first 11 minutes of the game with freshman Tierra Williams (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup) (Southfield, Mich.) scoring nine points during the process.  

HBU (1-21, 0-5) came back with a 10-2 run over a three-minute span to close within 13 points at 27-14 with 5:07 left in the stanza that ended with a three-pointer from freshman Devyn Weymouth. The home team concluded the half with by scoring seven of the final nine points to enter the half ahead by a 34-16 margin.

The Cougars (6-20, 4-4) opened the second half by scoring 10 of the first 16 points in four minutes to increase their advantage to 44-22 at the 15:54 mark on a conventional three-point play from Marlowe. The Huskies would get no closer than 15 points the rest of the way as the hosts produced its biggest lead of the game at 63-37 with 1:44 remaining on a three-pointer from Williams. 

Williams added 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting and a career-best five steals, while junior Caneka Davis (Chicago, Ill./Walther Lutheran) (Chicago, Ill.) posted eight points. Freshman Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) (St. Louis, Mo.) contributed eight rebounds and seven points, and freshman Jackie Jones (Detroit, Mich./Martin Luther King) (Detroit, Mich.) dished out a game-high six assists for CSU.

Freshman Devyn Weymouth tallied a double-double of 16 points and a game-leading 11 rebounds to pace Houston Baptist. Junior Brittany Barton added nine points, and junior Joselyn Pugh notched eight rebounds and seven points. 

The Cougars host Texas-Pan American this Saturday at the Jones Convocation Center in a key GWC game and their annual WBCA “Play 4 Kay” game with a start time of 2 p.m.
