CHICAGO – The Chicago State University women's track and field team gained a pair of top-five finishes from sophomore Jaya Emerson (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell) (Charlotte, N.C.) in the throwing events as it placed ninth at the annual Chicagoland Indoor Championships on Feb. 10-11. The meet was held at A.B. Clarius Track on the campus of North Central College in Naperville, Ill.
The Cougars tallied 20 points in the meet and finished with four top 10 finishes overall.
Emerson won her second title in the shot put this season as she posted a throw of 43-3.75 and later placed fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 46-5.50.
The 4x200-meter relay team of sophomores Jennifer Sanford (Hammond, IN/Morton) (Hammond, Ind.), Ashley Alamgir (Chicago, Ill./Mather) (Chicago, Ill.) and Mysta Townsell (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) (Gardnerville, Nev.), and senior Jasmine Walker (Capitol Heights, MD/Essex CC) (Capitol Heights, Md.) captured fifth place after finishing with a time of 1:52.93.
Sanford, Alamgir and Walker later teamed with junior Sydney Van Munster (Hudsonville, Mich./Portland) (Hudsonville, Mich.) to finish eighth in the 4x400m relay at a time of 4:23.65.
CSU heads to Milwaukee this Friday afternoon for its final tune-up before next weekend's Great West Conference Indoor Championships as it competes in the annual Milwaukee Panther Tune-Up with a start time of 4 p.m.
