CHICAGO –In a back and forth battle that featured nine lead changes and eight ties, Chicago State women's basketball fell to the Central Methodist (Mo.) Eagles 50 to 48 at the Jones Convocation Center Monday (Nov. 26) night.

The Cougars were sparked by the play of sophomore Tierra Williams (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup) (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup), who had a chance to tie the game at the end of regulation, but couldn't convert on a floater in the paint. Williams came off the bench to score 12 points and tallied a game-high six steals. Sophomore Jasmine Collins (Richton Park, Ill./Rich South) (Richton Park, Ill./Rich South) also contributed 12 points in the loss to help lead the Cougars.

The two teams traded baskets for the majority of the game with neither ever pulling away from the other. Central Methodist's largest lead was just seven with 15:16 left in the first half, but Chicago State rallied behind 16 points in the paint and went into halftime trailing by just one point. It was much of the same in the second half, but Central Methodist cashed in on 11-of-15 free throws in the half, which proved to be the difference.

Coming into tonight's contest, Central Methodist averaged 68 points per game, but Chicago State held the Eagles to just 50 points on 37.8 percent shooting and scored 25 points off 33 forced turnovers which helped the Cougars stay close and have an opportunity to win down the stretch.

“We have been giving up a lot of points this season,” Chicago State head coach Angela Jackson said. “So to make them turn it over 33 times, and holding them to 50 points is big for us and big for our young kids moving forward. That's a huge step for us, and a step in the right direction.”

Chicago State also received contributions from freshman Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) who scored seven points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, while sophomore Jackie Jones (Detroit, Mich./Martin Luther King) (Detroit, Mich./Martin Luther King) led the team in assists with six.

Central Methodist was led by Taylor Cornelison's 16 points.

Central Methodist improves to 8-0, while Chicago State falls to 1-4. Chicago State hits the road on Sunday to face Missouri Valley Conference member Drake. Tipoff is set for 2:05 pm CT in Des Moines, Iowa.
