CHICAGO – Chicago State women's tennis fared well as it continued its fall slate last weekend at the Redbird Round-Up on the Gregory Street Tennis Courts in downstate Normal, Ill.
Competing in the tournament with the Green and White were host Illinois State, Butler and Morehead State.
Seniors Juan Rosalia and Juan Rosalina Tejoprayitno (Mojokerto, East Java, Indonesia/Taruna Nusa Harapan) (Mojokerto, East Java, Indonesia) went a perfect 3-0 to win the doubles flight title, highlighted by an 8-5 win over ISU's Aniko Kiss and Phyllis Tigges in the finals.
“To beat a quality doubles team like Kiss and Tigges, who will probably be the best doubles team in the Missouri Valley Conference, says a lot about the twins as a doubles team, said head coach Jack Barton. “They were down 40-love on ISU's serve and fought all the way back to break serve and go up 7-5. I am very proud of the team as a whole and this will increase our confidence going into the Wright State/Dayton Invite this weekend.”
The Tejoprayitnos also captured wins over Angelina Qin and Ashley Breitenbach from Butler (8-0), and the Morehead State duo of Alexis Garrett and Victoria Cran (8-5).
In the Flight 1 singles bracket, Juan Rosalia bounced back from a first-round loss to claim the consolation title with wins over Alix Young of Morehead State (6-4, 6-3) and ISU's Tigges (6-4, 6-4).
CSU heads to Ohio this weekend to compete in the Wright State/Dayton Invite in Dayton.
