CHICAGO – Chicago State women's basketball closed out its season-opening, three-game homestand tonight at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center, but fell to Rice by a score of 77-50. The Owls evened their season record to 2-2 and the Cougars dropped to 0-3 on the young season.
Senior Janay Dockery (Detroit, MI/Martin Luther King) (Detroit, Mich.) paced the Green and White with a season-best 15 points to go along with six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Freshman Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) (St. Louis, Mo.) added 10 points and five boards, while senior Natalie Marlowe (South Milwaukee, WI/South Milwaukee) (South Milwaukee, Wis.) recorded eight points with a career-high five blocked shots.
Rice was led by sophomore Jessica Kuster's double-double with game highs of 29 points and 16 rebounds in addition to four blocks. Senior Brianna Hypolite contributed 14 points and senior D'Frantz Smart posted a game-leading eight steals.
The Cougars hit the road for the first time this season with a trip to Carbondale, Ill., on the horizon this Sunday against Southern Illinois beginning at 2:05 p.m.
