Cougars End Regular Season with 7-0 Home Loss to Toledo

Senior Jonathan Sutjiadi played his final collegiate home match against Toledo

CHICAGO (April 20, 2009) – The Chicago State men's tennis team closed the regular season on April 18 with a 7-0 Mid-American Conference loss to visiting Toledo at the CSU Tennis Courts. The Cougars fell to 4-12 on the year and 0-5 in MAC play, while the Rockets hiked their record to 16-10 overall and 2-2 against MAC competition.

 

UT swept all of the doubles matches to open the contest with a 1-0 advantage. Jared Miller and Knot Likitkumchorn knocked off the No. 1 doubles tandem of senior Jonathan Sutjadi (Jakarta, Indonesia) and Mehmet Duru (Istanbul, Turkey/Haydarpasa Andolu Lisesi) (Istanbul, Turkey) via an 8-4 decision, while the No. 2 doubles team of freshman Ivan Mojesjev (Novi Sad, Serbia) and sophomore Aumir Ahmad (Skokie, IL/Niles West HS) (Skokie, Ill.) lost by an 8-1 margin to Robbie McCallum and Sven Burus. Aleksandar Elezovic and Levi Bent-Lee captured the No. 3 doubles match by default for the Rockets.

 

In the singles matches, Sutjiadi dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Burus at No. 1 singles in his final collegiate home match. Prior to the match, he was honored in a Senior Day ceremony.

Duru fell to Likitkumchorn in straight sets at No. 2 singles by scores of 6-4, 7-5, while Ahmad lost by identical 6-0 scores to Elezovic at No. 3 singles.

 

Mojesev suffered a 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) loss to McCallum at No. 4 singles and junior Briano Molinaro (Chicago, Ill.) lost a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Harika in their battle at No. 5 singles. UT's Jayson Miller gained a default win at No. 6 singles for the final margin.

 

The Cougars travel to Buffalo, N.Y., this week to compete as the No. 6 seed at the MAC Championship beginning Thursday afternoon against third-seeded Northern Illinois at 1:30 p.m., central time.
