EVANSTON, Ill. – Chicago State women's basketball played its final road contest for the calendar year of 2009 on Saturday afternoon with an 85-64 defeat to host Northwestern at NU's Welsh-Ryan Arena. The Cougars saw dropped to 4-9 on the year while the Wildcats improved to 9-2.
Senior Alyssa Waldon (Sun Prairie, WI/Sun Prairie) (Sun Prairie, Wis.) and junior Courtney Waldon (Sun Prairie, WI/Sun Prairie) (Sun Prairie, Wis.) led Chicago State by scoring 15 points apiece. Junior Tressa Beckel (Waseca, Minn./Wisconsin) (Waseca, Minn.) added 10 points, while sophomore Natalie Marlowe (South Milwaukee, WI/South Milwaukee) (South Milwaukee, Wis.) and senior Laureen Pierson (Dayton, OH/Northmont) (Dayton, Ohio) each producing nine points with Marlowe recording five assists. Junior Caila Desroches (Long Island, NY/Monroe CC) (Long Island, N.Y.) grabbed eight rebounds for the Cougars.
NU was led by junior Amy Jaeschke's 29 points on 12-of-14 shooting. Sophomore Brittany Orban added a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while senior Kristin Cartwright added game highs of seven assists and five steals.
The Cougars return to action Monday night at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center with a non-conference battle against Eastern Michigan with the tip-off set for 7 p.m.
