Women's Basketball Drops 62-55 Decision to Akron

Courtney Waldon tallied 13 points to lead CSU against Akron in its return to the Jacoby Dickens Center

CHICAGO - The Chicago State women's basketball team made its first appearance in the Jacoby Dickens Center to play a game for the first time in nearly three years Thursday evening, but it suffered a 62-55 setback to visiting Akron. The Cougars fell to 4-8 on the year, while the Zips improved to 6-4.

Junior forward Courtney Waldon (Sun Prairie, WI/Sun Prairie) (Sun Prairie, Wis.) scored 13 points and recorded two blocks to lead Chicago State on the evening. Senior forward Laureen Pierson (Dayton, OH/Northmont) (Dayton, Ohio) added eight points, while sophomore Jael Pena (Harlem, N.Y.) recorded a career-high seven rebounds. Senior Alyssa Waldon (Sun Prairie, WI/Sun Prairie) (Sun Prairie, Wis.) also scored eight points with game highs of five assists and five steals.

Akron was paced by senior Ayla Guzzardo's game-high 18 points, while fellow classmate Jolene Tamboue added 10 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Jasmine Mushington contributed eight points for the Zips.

The Cougars travel to Evanston, Ill., this Saturday afternoon to battle Northwestern at Welsh-Ryan Arena with the tip-off set for 4 p.m.
