Former Florida State volleyball and basketball standout Sareea Freeman heads into her second season as an assistant coach with the Chicago State volleyball team.
Last season, Freeman helped the Cougars set a team-record a six-match winning streak while winning the Eastern Illinois Panther Classic for their first in-season tournament title since 2004.
Freeman came to CSU after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Albany in New York. She also gained strong coaching experience, managing the 17’s and 18’s travel team of the Prostyle Volleyball Club for two years and was the head coach in her final season. Previously, she served as the head coach of the 15s team of the Tallahassee Juniors Volleyball Club in 2011. She has worked numerous camps in the Florida area.
Playing middle blocker during her collegiate career (2009-12) with the Seminoles, Freeman posted a .356 hitting clip in her career to go along with tallying 666 kills and 393 total blocks. As a senior, she earned AVCA All-America honors after ranking second in the nation with a .438 hitting percentage, finishing with 268 kills and 111 blocks. Freeman guided the Seminoles to the NCAA Tournament all four years, earning at least one NCAA victory in all four seasons that included a Final Four berth in 2011 and a Sweet 16 appearance in 2009. She also played a season of college basketball at FSU during the 2013-14 season.
Freeman has continued her playing career with several teams including Supreme Chonburi of the Thailand League with whom she helped capture the 2017 league title. She received the Thai League’s Best Opposite Spiker and Most Valuable Foreign Player awards after the season.
Freeman currently resides in Chicago.
