Jelani Hewitt was named Assistant Men's Basketball Coach on September 16, 2021.

Hewitt is getting his start in the coaching ranks with the Cougars having just wrapped up a four-year overseas pro career, playing point and shooting guard for Science City Jena (2015-16, Jena, Germany), Rhein Stars Koln (2016-17, Cologne, Germany), MLP Academics Heidelberg (2017-18, Heidelberg, Germany) and CB Clavijo (2019, Logrono, Spain).

He played collegiately at Georgia Southern University where he currently holds records for free throws made (394), career steals (252), three-point field goals made (270) and career points (1,810), which ranks sixth on GSU’s all-time scoring list in the Division I era. As a junior (2013-14), Hewitt was named All-SoCon by the coaches and to the second team by the media and, as a senior, was named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year.
