Garcia Scores Late As Cougars Fall To Indiana State

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Chicago State (0-3-0) fell to Indiana State (3-1-0) with a final score of 5-1 on Saturday at Memorial Stadium. CSU managed six shots with three on goal, while Indiana State converted five of its 13 shots on target.
 
Chicago State began the first period on the back foot against Indiana State, with Kamila Aguilar making a series of critical saves early on. Despite her efforts, Indiana State took an early lead with a goal by Quinn Urquhart, assisted by Riley Mathews and Ava Evans, at the 4:39 mark. Indiana State extended its advantage with a second goal from Mathews in the 14th minute, followed by a third goal by Emely Lopez in the 33rd minute. CSU ended the period without scoring, trailing 3-0 at the conclusion of the first half.
 
The Cougars showed resilience in the second period despite facing a challenging situation against Indiana State. Early opportunities for Chicago State included a shot by Alana Garcia that missed the target and multiple attempts by Ameerah Kolleff, one of which was saved by the Indiana State goalkeeper. A significant moment for the Cougars came when Garcia notched a goal in the 89th minute, assisted by Kolleff, marking its only goal of the period.
 
Indiana State added to its lead with goals from CharlieBleu Saunders and Dasha Tuckova, maintaining control for most of the period. The game concluded with a final score of Indiana State 5, CSU 1.
 
Aguilar played all 90 minutes in goal, recording eight saves from 17 shots faced. Garcia contributed offensively by scoring once out of two shots, with one being on target. Kolleff provided an assist and managed three shots, with two on goal.
 
Looking ahead, the Cougars will host Alabama A&M University on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 8 p.m. CT. The game will take place at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep in Chicago, Illinois.
