Chicago State Athletics Honors Men’s Soccer Senior Hilary Odhiambo

CHICAGO, Ill. — Chicago State Athletics proudly recognizes Hilary Odhiambo, a senior forward whose collegiate career from 2023–2026 has been defined by resilience, leadership, and a relentless commitment to growth. Odhiambo concludes his time as a Cougar with 45 games played, 5 goals, 2 assists, and 28 shots on goal, leaving a lasting impact on the men's soccer program both statistically and culturally.

Odhiambo's journey to Chicago State began in Nairobi, Kenya, where his passion for soccer was shaped on local pitches and within a community deeply connected to the sport. His path led him to Gateway Legacy Christian Academy, then Georgia Southern University, before ultimately finding his home at Chicago State.

As he prepares to graduate with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Management, Odhiambo reflects on the experiences that shaped him.
"The brotherhood, the daily grind, and competing for something bigger than myself," Odhiambo said. "Most of all, I'll miss the moments with my team, the energy, the wins, and even the lessons from losses."

For Odhiambo, soccer has always been more than a game it has been a source of identity, resilience, and purpose.

A defining chapter of his collegiate career came when he suffered a knee injury, a setback that tested his resolve and strengthened his appreciation for the support around him.

"I had a difficult time recovering from a knee injury, but with the support of our physical trainers, I recovered quickly and well," he said.

The experience reinforced a lesson he now carries everywhere: resilience.

"Being a student-athlete has built my discipline, resilience, and time management," Odhiambo said. "It's taught me how to stay focused under pressure, work as part of a team, and push through challenges."

Throughout his career, Odhiambo competed in high-stakes environments, including the OVC conference tournament, matchups against Notre Dame, and competition in the Sun Belt Conference moments that fueled his competitive spirit and deepened his commitment to the sport.

As he looks ahead, Odhiambo's goals reflect both ambition and purpose.

"My plan after graduation is to keep pursuing my soccer career at the highest level possible while also using my degree in Business Administration and Management to build my business and create opportunities to give back to my community," he said.

He envisions a future where he continues to compete, grows a business rooted in the values he has learned, and uses his platform to uplift others.

"I'm excited to pursue playing soccer at the professional level, growing my business, and continuing to make an impact by giving back to my community."

As he closes his collegiate chapter, Odhiambo hopes his legacy at Chicago State will be defined by leadership and consistency.

"I hope to leave a legacy of leadership, hard work, and consistency, setting a standard both on and off the field," he said. "I want to be remembered as someone who uplifted teammates, led by example, and helped push the program forward."

Chicago State Athletics celebrates Hilary Odhiambo's contributions and the resilience, purpose, and character he brought to the program qualities that will continue to guide him as he enters the next stage of his journey.
