MILWAUKEE, WIs, - Chicago State University (0-12) fell to Marquette University (4-8) with a final score of 2-5 on Sunday. Chicago State secured singles victories at the No. 1 and No. 4 positions but was unable to capture the doubles point.
Marquette secured the doubles point with victories on courts one and three. The team of Emma Davis and Elise Barnstedt defeated
Camila Sanchez and
Karolina Skowronska, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles. Â The he No. 2 doubles match featuring
Mackenzie King and
Nikita Liyanage against Elena Duva and Maria Poon was left unfinished at 5-4.
In singles play, Marquette extended its lead with a decisive performance. Skowronska earned a point for CSU at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Barnstedt. However, Marquette responded as Davis took a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Sanchez at No. 2 singles, and Poon defeated King 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
The Cougars added a point after Nikitia Liyanage defeated Aiyana Abbott in a three-set match, 6-2, 6-7, 10-6, at No. 4 singles. Mendoza closed out the singles matches with a 6-2, 6-2 win over
Danina Hughes at No. 5 singles, securing the overall victory for Marquette. The No. 6 singles match was not contested.
