CHICAGO, Ill. — Chicago State (6-20, 4-9 NEC) secured a decisive 68-55 victory over Stonehill (9-17, 6-7 NEC) on Thursday night at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center. CSU capitalized on turnovers, scoring 24 points off Stonehill's 14 turnovers.
The game commenced with Chicago State taking control early on, establishing a 10-0 lead highlighted by a 3-pointer from
Corey Sands at the 15:24 mark.
CJ Ray was instrumental for the Cougars, scoring seven of the first 13 points, including a layup at 16:36. Stonehill struggled offensively, committing nine turnovers in the first half, which Chicago State capitalized on with seven steals. Chicago State extended its advantage with another scoring burst, capped by a layup from
Stephen Byard with two minutes remaining, finishing the half leading 38-19.
Stonehill mounted a strong offensive effort in the second half, scoring 36 points, but CSU's defense held firm. Ethan Meuser contributed a key 3-pointer for Stonehill at the 19:01 mark, with Hermann Koffi assisting. Chicago State's Sands led the charge with consistent scoring, including a layup at 15:25, assisted by Sands himself. Ray was instrumental in maintaining Chicago State's momentum, punctuating their run with a fast-break dunk at 1:31, assisted by Sands. Despite Stonehill's late-game push, Chicago State maintained control, closing the period with a 68-55 advantage.
Ray scored 18 points, making 7 of 16 attempts from the field. Sands added 12 points, converting 5 of 6 shots, including two 3-pointers.
Marcus Tankersley contributed with six assists and seven points.
Doyel Cockrill III tallied two steals and five points.
Looking ahead, Chicago State will face Le Moyne College on Saturday, Feb. 14. The matchup takes place at noon at Ted Grant Court in Syracuse, New York.
