EVANSTON, Ill. — Chicago State University (0-5) was defeated by Northwestern (5-2) 7-0 on Sunday at the Combe Tennis Center. Chicago State University was unable to secure any singles matches, while Northwestern captured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.
Northwestern secured the doubles point with victories on courts one and three. On court one, Cyrus Mahjoob and Ethan Schiffman defeated
Chad Valdes and
Yurii Hoida, 6-1.
Justin Atkins and
Reed Gahagan fell to Carter Pate and Owen Megargee, 6-1, at No. 3 doubles. The match on court two between Andy Kunaka,
Joao Teixeira, and their opponents Chad Miller and Cooper Han was left unfinished with a score of 3-2.
In singles play, Cooper Han extended Northwestern's lead with a decisive 6-0, 6-0 victory over
Reed Gahagan at No. 5 singles. Dylan Charlap kept the momentum going for the home team with a 6-1, 6-1 win against
Justin Atkins on court six. Chad Miller added another point for Northwestern, defeating
Joao Teixeira 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
Ethan Schiffman clinched the match for Northwestern with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over
Andrew Kunaka at No. 3 singles. Carter Pate continued the sweep with a 6-3, 6-3 win against
Chad Valdes at No. 2 singles. The final match saw Cyrus Mahjoob secure a 6-4, 6-4 win over
Yurii Hoida at No. 1 singles, completing the 7-0 victory for Northwestern.
