CHICAGO — The Chicago State men's soccer team lost to Fairleigh Dickinson University 5-0 on Sunday (Oct. 4) in a Northeast Conference matchup at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep.
First Half
- FDU went in front 1-0 at 2:17 when Andrew Araya scored off a Genti Dauti assist, while the Cougars put early shots from Alexander Mutalibov and Jorge Valle on frame that Matheus Franca saved.
- Jabulile Mooketsi kept CSU within one through an FDU stretch that included a shot off the woodwork and eight saves between 18:50 and 26:17.
- FDU added goals from Jeremie Pelade at 28:48 and Preston Duval at 33:57 to move ahead 3-0.
- The final minutes included three FDU fouls and a yellow card to
Karma Bhagentsang, and FDU carried the 3-0 lead into halftime.
Second Half
- FDU pressed early in the half with two shots saved by Mooketsi and multiple corner kicks before Valle forced a save for Chicago State at 55:18.
- Mooketsi saved Andrew Araya's shot at 60:15, but FDU added a goal at 60:43 when Ryan Kopay scored off a Julian Ramirez assist to make it 4-0.
- CSU absorbed another FDU stretch from 61:20 through 72:57, with Mooketsi saving shots by Ramirez, Jeremie Pelade and Luke Ayaz while the score remained 4-0.
- FDU continued to create late chances and was credited with a team goal at 86:35 to make it 5-0;
Bill Okumu had the Cougars' final shot at 89:37 before FDU closed out the 5-0 result.
Mooketsi recorded 24 saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal, making 11 saves in the first half and 13 in the second. Valle led CSU with two shots, putting both attempts on goal.
FDU improves to 7-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play while Chicago State is now 0-10-0 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play.
