Brewton, Taylor, and Kaseba Earn Weekly NEC Honors

Brewton Earns Field Athlete of the Week, Rookie of the Week, and Prime Performer

CHICAGO, Ill. - The NEC has resumed their weekly track and field athlete of the week nominations for the 2026 season. The NEC announced the Chicago State's Makiyah Brewton, Queanna Taylor, and Faustin Kaseba have won NEC honors for the week of 1/13/26. Freshman Makiyah Brewton was named Field Athlete of the Week, Rookie of the Week, and Prime Performer honors. Senior sprinter Queanna Taylor joined Brewton representing the women's track and field team also being named as a Prime Performer. The men's track and field team is represented by freshman hurdler Fasutin Kaseba being named Prime Performer for the second time this season. 

Makiyah Brewton (Douglas, Georgia) earns her first NEC honor of her career after her performance at the Badger Midwest Invite on January 10. Brewton finished second in both the long jump and high jump. In the long jump Brewton set a best of 5.55m which sits fourth in the NEC as of 1/13/26. Brewton also leaped 1.65m in the high jump which is currently tied for first in the NEC. 

Queanna Taylor (Georgetown, Guyana) was named as an NEC Prime Performer after her weekend at the Badger Midwest Invite. The senior sprinter put together two great runs in the 60 Meter Dash. In the prelims Taylor ran a 7.71 and then backed up that run with a personal best of 7.63 seconds in the final to finish third only trailing two Wisconsin Badger sprinters. Her run in the final currently puts her at the top of the NEC in the event.

Faustin Kaseba (Atlanta, Georgia) represents the men's team also being named NEC Prime Performer. At the Badger Midwest Invite, Kaseba set two personal best in the 60 Meter Hurdles. In the prelim of the event, the freshman hurdler ran a 8.30 and then backed that up with an 8.20 second hurdle run to win the event. Kaseba now sits atop the NEC in the 60 meter hurdles. 

Brewton, Taylor, and Kaseba and the track and field teams return to action Friday, January 16 on the road as they travel to Youngstown State University for the YSU Collegiate Invitational.
