Cougars Battle Hard in Road Test at Marquette

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (August 31, 2025) – Chicago State men's soccer showed grit and resilience on the road Sunday afternoon, competing for 90 minutes in a 4-0 setback against Marquette at Valley Fields.

The Cougars generated quality chances in the first half, with Bill Okumu and Owen Santos each forcing saves from the Golden Eagles goalkeeper. Jack Geist also put pressure on the backline with an effort just wide in the 29th minute, keeping Marquette on edge.

Between the posts, Johan Rodriguez was once again a standout. The senior recorded eight saves, including several highlight stops in one-on-one situations, to anchor the Cougar defense and keep CSU within striking distance.

Chicago State matched Marquette's physicality throughout the afternoon, holding their own in possession (42%) and limiting the Golden Eagles to just five corner kicks. Hilary Odhiambo added another shot on target late in the match, capping off a competitive team effort that showcased the Cougars' depth and determination.

The team will now turns its focus to building on these stretches of strong play as non-conference action continues.

The Cougars return home on Friday as they host Detroit Mercy at the Kroc Corps Community Center. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m.
