IOWA CITY, Iowa (November 20, 2025) – The Chicago State men's basketball team continued its non-conference schedule Thursday night, taking on Big Ten opponent Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Cougars competed with energy and determination before falling 93–54 in front of 9,265 fans.
Guard
Marcus Tankersley led Chicago State with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting, adding three assists and providing steady offense against the Hawkeyes. Forward
Stephen Byard contributed seven points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, while
CJ Ray added 12 points and went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. The Cougars demonstrated composure at the stripe, finishing 12-of-15 for 80 percent, and improved their shooting efficiency in the second half, raising their field goal percentage from 36 percent before halftime to 44 percent after the break.
Chicago State scored 24 points in the paint and added seven second-chance points, showing determination against Iowa's size. The Cougars also forced seven Hawkeye turnovers, with multiple players contributing steals to spark defensive pressure. Several reserves provided energy off the bench, including
Dailliss Cox and
Malek Robinson, who chipped in offensively during their minutes.
Chicago State will return to action in its upcoming non-conference slate, looking to build on the positives from Thursday's performance and continue developing depth and consistency as the season progresses.
