SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Chicago State volleyball put together a gritty effort on the road Friday night, pushing Le Moyne in a competitive four-set match before falling 3-1 (21-25, 27-25, 17-25, 17-25) at Ted Grant Court.
The Cougars showcased strong stretches of play throughout the evening, highlighted by a standout second set comeback where they erased a late deficit to take the frame 27-25 and even the match.
Leah Linares Castro led the offensive attack with 11 kills while hitting .333 and adding 18 digs for an impressive double-double performance.
Nayella George continued her strong two-way play with 11 kills and a team-high 10 digs, while
Zeynep Ertam added seven kills and 11 assists in a balanced effort.
Alyssa Ferreira anchored the defense with a match-best 21 digs and chipped in four assists.
At the net,
Jocelyn Carter posted nine kills and three blocks, helping the Cougars record 13 team blocks on the night. Chicago State's defense held Le Moyne to just a .193 hitting percentage overall.
The Cougars (0-15, 0-5 NEC) will look to carry their momentum from the strong second set into their next match as they continue conference play tomorrow against Le Moyne College.
