Box Score Chicago State's volleyball team earned a thrilling five-set win over Miami Ohio Friday night in the Cougars second match of the day at the Dunn Hospitality Tournament in Evansville, Indiana.
The Cougars dropped the first set 25-12 but rebounded for a 27-25 game two victory. In that match, CSU rallied three times facing set points before scoring the last three points for the win. CSU cruised to a game three win, 25-16, before staging another furious rally in the fourth game. Facing a set point at 24-18, CSU reeled off six straight points to pull even 24-24, before Miami secured a 26-24 win. In the fifth and deciding game, Miami got out to a 13-8 lead and the Cougars had to turn away five match points before tying the score 14-14. At that point,
Karly Klaer served an ace and Miami slammed a kill to knot the score 15-15.
Berenice Almeyda then gave Chicago State the advantage with a kill and
Zahara Quraishi ended the match with a service ace and the Cougars ended the marathon with a 17-15 win.
Karly Klaer led all players with 21 kills on 58 attacks while
Andrea Calderon led all players with 26 digs.
Wiktoria Zagumny led all players with 39 assists. Klaer also had four service aces while
Patrycja Lagida and
Zahara Quraishi each contributed three.
The Cougars will be back on the court in their third and final match of the Dunn Hospitality Tournament hosted by Evansville, taking on Samford on Saturday, September 7 at 11 a.m.
