Box Score The Chicago State men's soccer team earned their first victory of the season with a 2-1 win over Detroit Mercy Monday afternoon at Titan Field in Detroit.
Hilary Odhiambo scored in the second minute for CSU and the Cougars held the 1-0 advantage well into the second half. Detroit Mercy tied the game in the 74th minute before
Danail Sergiev scored his team-leading third goal of the season in the 77th for the eventual-game winner and 3-1 win. Chicago State held the advantage on the scoreboard despite getting out shot 16-7 and 5-3 in shots on goal.
Lucas Fontana made four saves in net for the Cougars while Sergiev also assisted on the Odhiambo goal.
The Cougars will be back in action Friday, September 6 at 4 p.m., traveling to Green Bay, Wisconsin to face the Green Bay Phoenix at Aldo Santaga Stadium. The Phoenix enter the contest with a 2-2 record while the Cougars improved to 1-3 with today's win.
