Box Score The Chicago State volleyball team started strong against the University of Indiana in the first matchup of the Indiana Invitational Friday morning between the Cougars and host school Hoosiers at Wilkinson Hall in Bloomington, IN. Chicago State won the first game 25-21 on the same court where CSU swept Indiana in 2021, but IU won the next three games for the 21-25, 25-19, 25-11, 25-15 victory.
In that first game, the score was tied 10 times before Chicago State scored consecutive points to go up 15-13 and wouldn't trail again in the game although the Hoosiers cut the margin to one on eight occasions. Leading 22-21, the Cougars put the game away with an IU service error, a
Julieta Sandez block and
Berenice Almeyda service ace for the 25-21 win.Â
Chicago State jumped out to a 4-1 game two lead before IU converted five straight points to gain the advantage. The game was close throughout before the Hoosiers gained control with four consecutive points and six of seven to go up 23-16. CSU did manage to turn away one set point before falling 25-19. The Hoosiers came out fast in game three, going up 5-0 and 16-4 and won going away 25-11. Indiana scored game four's first points, jumping out to a 5-2 lead, then, with IU leading 19-13, the Hoosiers scored five consecutive points to lead to a 24-13 match point. Chicago stayed alive with kills by Almeyda and
Patrycja Lagida but an Indiana kill closed out the match for the hosts.
Lagida led Cougars in kills with 14 followed by
Karly Klaer with 11.
Andrea Calderon had 15 digs and
Wiktoria Zagumny led the Cougars with 29 assists.
