Box Score Daniel Sergiev scored in the 83rd minute to cut Cleveland State's lead in half before the Vikings added an insurance score three minutes later to claim a 3-1 win Friday night at Krenzler Field in Cleveland.
Cleveland State jumped out to a 2-0 first-half lead with goals in the 16th and 18th minute despite both teams tying in shots (6-6), shots on goal (3-3) and shots faced (6-6). The Cougars finally broke through with Sergiev's goal in the 83rd minute assisted by
Dasha Curiel but the Vikings countered with a goal for the win. Chicago State registered 15 shots to Cleveland State's 13 and also held an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Hilary Odhiambo led CSU with four shots while
Yanis Debbarh and Curiel led in shots on goal with two.
The Cougars will be back in action Monday, September 2, traveling to Detroit, Michigan to face Detroit Mercy at 3 p.m. at Titan Field in Detroit.
