Box Score The Chicago State women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Horizon League Women's Tennis Tournament following a 4-2 win over Oakland Friday afternoon at the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Cougars advance to play No. 2 Youngstown State Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Cougars dropped the doubles point but rebounded in singles, winning the first three matches in three sets while only dropping a total of three games in wins by
Nia Cooper (6-0, 6-0),
Ethel Li (6-1, 6-0) and
Katarina Dukic (6-2, 6-0) to take a 3-1 lead. Following a Golden Grizzlies win at No. 1,
Sofiya Sedovich closed the match out with a 6-0, 7-6 victory for the 4-2 final.
"I think we played the worst doubles we've played all year, coupled with the fact that Oakland played lights out in doubles," head coach Jack Bsrton said. "We will look at the video and fix it for tomorrow. The ladies calmed their emotions and really focused during singles. Katarina and Sofiya showed great leadership in their matches and brought us to the finish line. It's good to advance and, as always, we will celebrate the victory tonight and then tomorrow we will be focused on YSU."
