Box Score The Chicago State women's tennis team opened conference play with a 7-0 sweep over Oakland Friday afternoon at Bloomfield Tennis and Fitness in Bloomfield Township, Michigan. The victory was the Cougars sixth in a row which began with 7-0 sweeps over Eastern Illinois and Roosevelt. CSU earned the doubles point when Oakland failed to fill the No. 3 doubles position then went on to sweep each of the five singles matches in straight sets.
"This was a great way to start conference play," head coach
Jack Barton said. "We showed some rust after being off for over two weeks but I think being healthy going into the conference season is always a good thing. This was a classic trap match for us because they only had five players. I'm glad we focused from the start because had we not, this could have gone bad very quickly. We will get back to work this week because we have two more tough teams coming to HF, but no doubt we will be ready."
Compete results listed below.
The Cougars will be back in action next weekend, hosting Youngstown State, Saturday, April 6 at 2 p.m. then Cleveland State on Sunday, April 7 at 2 p.m. Both matches will be at H-F Racquet and Fitness in Homewood.
