Box Score The Chicago State women's tennis team swept doubles matches for the first time this season but only followed with a pair of singles wins in a 4-3 loss to Valparaiso Wednesday afternoon at H-F Racquet and Fitness in Homewood.
Manuella Eloundou and
Nia Cooper teamed for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles followed by an
Ethel Li and
Sofiya Sedovich 6-2 win at No. 2. With the team point already clinched,
Katarina Dukic and
Amina Taibi continued play and won 6-5 at No. 3. Valpo won the first singles match at No. 2 before
Nia Cooper won in straight sets at No. 6 but Valpo won the next three to clinch the team win, 4-3.
Manuella Eloundou won in three sets in the final match of the day.
"We played with so much discipline in doubles," head coach
Jack Barton said. "It was a joy to see. We did all the right things. Unfortunately we didn't carry that same discipline to singles. As a whole, we didn't play with the patience and consistency we talked about in practice. Valpo was willing to make 150 balls per point if they needed to. We rushed and tried to create opportunities that were not there. The flip side is that I'm glad we had this experience because we learned from it. The girls are disappointed and realize the mistakes we made but out of disappointment comes adjustments and learning. We will keep working."

The women's tennis team will be back in action Saturday, February 10, traveling to Bloomington, Illinois to face Illinois State at 2:30 p.m. at the Gregory Street Courts.
