No. 1 Louisville Ends Chicago State’s Historic Season with a 3-0 Win in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament

Box Score The Chicago State volleyball team's historic season came to an end Friday night with a 3-0 loss at Louisville in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, The Cardinals, the region's No. 1 seed and overall No. 4 seed in the tournament, got off to a fast start with a 25-10 first set win. The Cougars settled in before a crowd of 4,416 and trailed by just one in the second set, 12-11, before the Cardinals went on a 5-0 run to lead 17-11 en route to a 25-18 win. Louisville got out to a 13-2 third-set lead and rounded out the sweep with a 25-13 victory.

The Cougars hit just .009 for the match compared to.290 for Louisville, Karly Klaer and Patrycja Lagida led Chicago State with seven kills apiece. Klaer also led the team in digs with 10 and Wiktoria Zagumny had 17 assists. 

Chicago State finishes the season with a 19-10 record which are the most wins in a season by a Cougars team, regular season Northeast Conference champions with a 13-1 record and NEC Tournament champions. They won 10 matches by sweeping their opponent 3-0 and won 45 out of 54 games played in conference competition. Head coach Tony Trifonov was named NEC Coach of the Year. Sophomore Patrycja Lagida was named NEC Player of the Year, NEC First Team All-Conference and NEC Tournament MVP. Sophomore Wiktoria Zagumny was named NEC Setter of the Year, NEC First Team All-Conference and named to the NEC All-Tournament Team. 

Joining Lagida and Zagumny on the NEC First Team All-Conference squad were teammates Julieta Sandez and Andrea Calderon, who also was named to the NEC All-Tournament team, while Berenice Almeyda and Karly Klaer were named NEC Second Team All-Conference.
