Aiyanna Culver added 14 off the bench but Chicago State couldn't overcome a slow start, scoring their first points with just three seconds remaining in the first quarter as No. 8 Iowa State jumped out to a 29-0 advantage and beat Chicago State 96-56 on Monday. The season-opening home win for the Cyclones was their 30th straight, the longest active streak in Division I.
The Cougars settled in and outscored the Cyclones 22-15 in the fourth quarter and
Josie Hill, who finished among the NCAA's leaders in blocked shots a season ago, scored eight points on 4-of-8 shooting, contributed a team-high four rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block.
The Cougars will be back on the court Wednesday, November 16, playing their second game in three days, traveling to Indianapolis, Indiana to face Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse. They will then return home Saturday, November 9 to make their home debut against the Cleveland State Vikings at 4:30 p.m. at the Jones Convocation Center in Chicago.
