Box Score The Chicago State men's soccer team lost to Stonehill 5-1 Sunday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium in Easton, Massachusetts. The loss eliminated the Cougars from contention in advancing to the NEC Tournament.
The teams played a scoreless first half until Stonehill was awarded a penalty kick with just :05 seconds remaining and converted the goal to take a 1-0 halftime lead. The Skyhawks added a second tally in the 49th minute before Chicago State got on the board with
Danail Sergiev scoring his team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 51st minute to cut the Stonehill lead in half, 2-1. The Skyhawks added goals in the 58th, 80th and 89th minute for the 5-1 win.
Stonehill held a 22-15 shots advantage and 12-5 in shots on goal. Sergiev led the Cougars with four shots on goal followed by
Jaiye Sheppard,
Bill Okumu and
Bruno Baez each were credited with two.
