Box Score The Chicago State volleyball team suffered their first conference defeat with a 3-1 loss at FDU Saturday afternoon. Despite the setback, the Cougars remain atop the NEC standings with a 9-1 record and are the first team to qualify for the four-team conference tournament. CSU also has the inside track to host the league tournament with one loss and just four regular season matches remaining, a home series against Mercyhurst then wrap up the regular season on the road at Saint Francis, who is tied with FDU in second with a 8-2 record.
FDU broke open a tight first game which featured seven ties with a four-point run to turn a 9-9 tie into a 13-9 advantage. The Knights continued that margin to 20-16 before the Cougars pulled to within three, 23-20, when FDU closed out the match with a pair of scores and a 25-20 win. FDU won game two 25-17 and the third game was tight throughout when, tied 21-21, CSU reeled off two points and got to match point and won on an FDU attack error. The Knight got off to a fast start in the fourth game, scoring 10 of 11 points to extend a 6-4 lead to 16-5 en route to a 25-13 game four win and 3-1 victory.
Patrycja Lagida tied for game high honors in kills with 14, followed by Berence Almeyda with 8.
Wiktoria Zagumny had 28 assists,
Andrea Calderon had 18 digs and
Julieta Sandez had six blocks.
The Cougars will be back in action next weekend at home, hosting Mercyhurst (2-8 NEC, 3-17 overall) on Friday, November 8 at 6 p.m. at the JDC then again Saturday, November 9 at 1 p.m.
