Box Score The Chicago State women's soccer team scored first but it wasn't enough as the Cougars lost to LIU 4-0 Sunday afternoon at the LIU Soccer Field in Brooklyn, New York.
CSU's
Delaney Kenney opened the scoring in the contest, taking a pass from
Jackie Tamayo and placing her shot to the high right past the LIU goal keeper to give Chicago State a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute of the game. The Sharks countered and netted their first goal on a penalty kick in the 19th minute and added an additional goal before halftime to lead 2-1 at the break.
LIU added goals in the 75th and 76th minutes to pull away for the 4-0 win. The Sharks outshot CSU 11-7 but the margin was only 5-4 in shots on goal.
Barbara Castellanos led the Cougars with three shots followed by
Hannah Bennett with two.
With the loss, Chicago State falls to 0-5 in the Northeast Conference and 0-11 overall. The Sharks improve to 3-0-1 in conference play and 4-5-1 overall.
Chicago State will return to action Sunday, October 13, hosting Le Moyne at 1 p.m. at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep in Chicago.
