Box Score The Chicago State volleyball team won their seventh consecutive NEC victory Friday night at the Jacoby Dickens Center, powering past Stonehill College 3-0. To date, six of the Cougars seven conference wins have come via a 3-0 shutout.
The Cougars got out to a fast start in game 1, scoring 10 consecutive points for a 10-1 lead and held 15-5 and 20-8 advantages before closing out a 25-11 win. Game two was a different story with the Skyhawks jumping out to a 7-4 and 13-9 leads before Chicago battled back to knot the score 17-17. Stonehill led 24-23 and was serving for the win but back-to-back kills by
Berenice Almeyda a 25-24 advantage. The Skyhawks staved off the first match point but CSU took advantage of a service error and wrapped up a 27-25 victory with a
Patrycja Lagida kill. Chicago State scored seven of eight early points to jump out to an 8-4 lead. CSU followed that with a pair of four-point runs to extend the lead to eight, 19-11. The teams would exchange pairs of points before Chicago State earned the sweep with a 25-15 victory.
Lagida led the Cougars with 10 kills followed by
Zahara Quraishi with nine and
Karly Klaer with eight. Other match leaders included
Wiktoria Zagumny with 23 assists and
Andrea Calderon with 10 digs.
With the win, the Cougars improved to 11-8 overall and 7-0 in the Northeast Conference while Stonehill falls to 6-13 Â overall and 2-5 in league play.Â
The same two teams will play tomorrow at the Jacoby Dickens Center at 1 p.m.
