Box Score The Chicago State women's team earned their first win of the spring season today with a 5-2 victory at H-F Racquet & Fitness in Homewood. The Cougars dropped the doubles point, losing at No. 3 by a count of 7-5 but battled back to win five of six singles matches for the 5-2 win.
Sofiya Sedovich,
Amina Taibi and
Ethel Li each earned straight-set wins while
Manuella Eloundou and
Nia Cooper each lost the first set of their respective matches but came to win two straight to earn match wins.
"The women were very resilient today," head coach
Jack Barton said. "They pulled something from deep within that helped them stay in the fight and win the battle. Amina (Taibi) was really down after doubles and she grinded out a big win in singles to win the match for us. Nia (Cooper) showed a lot of grit in her match. She didn't play well in the first set and really buckled down. Sofiya (Sedovich) and Ethel (Li) gave us the start we needed in singles to take some of the pressure off the other girls. Manuella (Eloundou) really found her confidence today. It was an all around team win. I'm really proud of them."
