Cougars Women Place Second

The Chicago State men's golf team claimed the team title at the 38th Thomas W. Dortch Jr. HBCU Classic Tuesday at Eagle's Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Georgia. The Cougars started the day just one shot off the lead but dominated the field with a second-round 279, 10 strokes better than eventual runner up Florida A&M. CSU was paced by Pablo Riveiro who tied for medalist honors with a two-round 138. He shot the lowest round of the tournament, a six-under 66 Tuesday while Zack Phelps moved up 14 spots following a first-round 75 with a second-day 2-under 70.

The tournament title is the first for Chicago State with a full Division I field and the Cougars accomplished the feat with a program one-round record of minus-9.

Chicago State's women's team placed second in a three-team field, 20 strokes off the lead of tournament champion North Carolina Central but 33 strokes in front of third-place finisher Maryland Eastern Shore. Koranis Boonmadee led CSU with a two-round 157 and placed third individually while Aarushi Bhanot carded the low second round for the Cougars with a 79 to finish fifth.
