Chicago State Drops 3-2 Decision to Milwaukee in Volleyball

Box Score The Chicago State volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision to Milwaukee Tuesday night at the Jones Convocation Center in Chicago. The teams took turns winning sets with the Cougars taking the second and fourth before falling in the fifth, 15-11.

Yanlis Feliz led all players with 28 kills and Patrycja Lagida added 16 and Berenice Almeyda had eight. Andrea Calderon led the team in digs with 19 and Wiktoria Zagumny had 49 assists.

Next up the Cougars will travel to Evansville, Indiana to face the Evansville Aces on Monday, September 25 at 6 p.m. at the Meeks Family Fieldhouse.

Set 1 -  Milwaukee 25, Chicago State 23
-Milwaukee opened the scoring and the teams exchanged points in the early going with four ties at 7-7
-The Panthers then won five of the next six points to go up 12-8
-The teams then traded points until, trailing 15-11, kills by Berenice Almeyda and Patrycja Lagida and a Panthers attack error and CSU closed the gap to 15-14
-Milwaukee countered with a run of three of their own to go up 18-14
-Trailing 20-16, Chicago State won five of the next six points on kills by Almeyda and Feliz, an attack error and consecutive service aces by Wiktoria Zagumny to knot the score 21-21
-The Panthers then won three of the next four to go up 24-22 and staved off set point on a service error but Milwaukee closed the set with a kill 

Set 2 -  Chicago State 25, Milwaukee 16 
-Chicago State jumped out to a 5-1, 7-3 and 9-4 lead to start the second set on three blocks, a pair of kills by Feliz and Lagida and a kill by Berenice Almeyda
-Milwaukee rallied to 9-7 before the Cougars went on an 8-2 run on three Feliz kills, two attack errors, a service error, a Lagida kill and an Almeyda service ace and the Cougars led 17-9
-Milwaukee pulled to within six on two occasions and closed the set scoring four of the last five points for a 25-16 win

Set 3 -  Milwaukee 25, Chicago State 19
-The teams played to six ties until it was 7-7
-Chicago State won four of the next five on two Feliz kills and one by Lagida and the Cougars led 11-8
-The Panthers countered winning four of the next five to tie and take a one-point lead, 13-12
-Tied 13-13, Milwaukee scored the next three to go up 16-13
-CSU scored three of the next four on two Feliz kills and one by Almeyda to pull within one 17-16
-At that point, the teams traded two-for-one points with Milwaukee holding the advantage to lead 24-18
-The Cougars staved off set point with a Feliz kill but lost the next point and dropped the third set 25-19

Set 4 -  Chicago State 25, Milwaukee 16 
-The Cougars jumped out to 2-0 and 4-1 leads on two Feliz kills and a kill and service ace by Zagumny 
-The teams exchanged points until the Panthers reeled off three consecutive to knot the match 8-8
-Tied 10-10 and 11-11, the Cougars scored a pair on a service error and Lagida and Severino block assist to go up 13-11
-Milwaukee scored two of the next three to trail by one, 14-13
-CSU then scored five of the next six to go up 19-14 on a Feliz kill, attack error and a Lagida kill and service ace
-The Panthers scored a pair to pull within three, 19-16, before closed out the match with a six-point run on two Feliz kills, a pair of block assists by Severino and Zagumny, a kill by Severino and closed out on an Almeyda service ace

Set 5 -  Milwaukee 15, Chicago State 11
-Chicago State started the set with a 3-0 run on kills by Zagumny and Feliz along with an attack error
-Milwaukee countered with a three-point run to knot the match 3-3
-The teams traded points until it was 7-7 when the Panthers scored five of six points to go up 11-8
-A Lagida kill and and Panthers attack error drew the Cougars to within one, 11-10
-The Panthers scored a pair followed by a Feliz kill and Milwaukee led 13-11 and closed out the match with consecutive points to pull out a 15-11 third-set win and 3-2 match victory
