Box Score Chicago State's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to UC Irvine Friday afternoon at the Jones Convocation Center in the first game of CSU's Windy City Classic. The Anteaters earned a six-point win in the opening set, followed by a Cougars win before consecutive 25-23 UCI victories for the match victory. Cougars freshman Patricia Lagida led all players with 24 kills while fellow freshman
Wiktoria Zagumny contributed 50 assists.
Set 1 - UC Irvine 25, Chicago State 19
-The Anteaters opened the scoring with the first three points, five of the first six and six of the first eight to jump out to a four-point lead early
-Trailing 15-9, Chicago State went on a four-point run on a pair of kills by Lagida and a pair of attack errors to pull with two, 15-13
-The teams exchanged points before UCI went on a four-point run of their own to extend the lead to 22-15 en route to a 25-19 win
Set 2 - Chicago State 25, UC Irvine 21
-The Cougars scored first and the teams exchanged points until CSU went on a three-point run to go up 6-3
-Following an Anteaters point, CSU scored the next three, two on kills by
Yanlis Feliz to extend the lead to 9-4
-UCI scored six of the next the next seven to knot the set at 10-10
-The teams traded points and were tied three times, last at 17-17
-The Cougars then scored three of the next four on a Feliz kill and a pair of UCI attack errors to go up 20-18
-The teams exchanged points before Chicago State won four of the last five for the second set win.
Berenice Almeyda had two kills and Lagida capped the win with a service ace
Set 3 - UC Irvine 25, Chicago State 23
-The Anteaters started hot offensively in the third set, jumping out to a 7-2 lead
-The Cougars battled back on three kills by Feliz, one by Almeyda and three attack errors capped by a Lagida kill to turn a five-point deficit into a one-point lead, 11-10
-The pendulum swung back in favor of UCI who won six of the next eight and CSU trailed 16-13
-The teams traded two points apiece then went back and forth, one point each until UCI led 23-20
-Chicago State scored on an attack error and Lagida kill and CSU pulled to within 23-22
-UCI pulled to set point on a kill but a
Berenice Almeyda kill pushed the match to 24-23
-The Anteaters closed with a kill to go up 2-1
Set 4 - UC Irvine 25, Chicago State 23
-UC Irvine again scored first but Chicago State scored the next three and five of the first seven to take an early 5-2 lead
-The Anteaters rebounded from the run to score the next five and eight of the next nine to go out front 10-6
-The teams exchanged points when Lagida sandwiched kills around a UCI attack error to pull within one, 13-12
-After a pair of UCI points, CSU reeled off three consecutive points to tie the set at 16-16
-UCI scored the next two, then CSU the next three and the Cougars led 19-18
-The teams exchanged points until it was 23-23 when the Anteaters closed the match out with a pair of kills for the win
