Women's Volleyball Wins 3-1 Against NIU

The Chicago State women's volleyball team faced off against the NIU Huskies Sunday night in DeKalb and earned their second straight victory over the Huskies with a 3-1 score.

Yanlis Feliz led in kills with a game-high 25 while Patrycja Lagida added 22 and Berenice Almeyda tallied 11.

First Set - Chicago State 25, NIU 23

• The Cougars came out hot with back-to-back points off of a kill from Julieta Sandez and an error by the Huskies to go up 2-0
• The Huskies rallied with a 6-4 run to tie it at 6-6
• This back-and-forth scoring led up to an intense 22-22 score, when the Cougars managed to seal the victory with a 3-1 run featuring a kill from Patrycja Lagida to win the set 25-23

Second Set - Chicago State 25, NIU 21

• Both teams continued to compete tightly with a 3-3 score early on in the set
• The Cougars erupted with a  7-2 run due to several errors by the Huskies to lead 10-5
• The back-and-forth scoring continued with a 5-5 run took and the Cougars on top 15-10, forcing a Huskies timeout
• Coming out of the timeout, the Huskies were unable to sustain any runs and the Cougars sealed the set with a kill from Lagida to win the set 25-21 to go up 2-0 

Third Set - NIU 25, Chicago State 19

• The Cougars earned the first point of the set with a ferocious kill from Yanlis Feliz to lead 1-0
• NIU produced a 5-2 run to take the lead with a score of 8-4
• The Huskies maintained the early lead and never looked back as they finished out the set due to an error by the Cougars to earn a 25-19 win to trail 2-1

Fourth Set - Chicago State 25, NIU 13

• The Cougars erupted with an 11-3 run which included kills from Almeyda, Lagida, and Feliz to give them a comfortable 15-8 lead
• Chicago State maintained this momentum throughout the rest of the set as they closed out it out with a service ace from Lagida to win 25-13 and seal the victory with a 3-1 score overall
