Box Score The Chicago State women's soccer team opened the 2023 season with a 1-0 win over Purdue Fort Wayne Thursday night at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep in Chicago. Freshman Jacquline Tamayo scored just after the five-minute mark of the first half, hitting the back of the net on her first collegiate shot, and junior
Julie Arballo turned away nine shots to preserve the lead and deliver head coach Josh Reyes a victory in his first game at the helm of the Cougars.
Reyes was named head coach at the beginning of August and had just a little over two weeks to get his team ready for the season opener, coming to CSU from Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas where he spent the past decade (2012-22) as head coach of both the women's and men's soccer programs.
The Cougars will be back in action Sunday, hosting their second consecutive game to open the season, welcoming Western Illinois to Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep for a 12:30 p.m. start.
