Box Score The Chicago State women's tennis team lost to Cleveland State 4-3 Saturday morning at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion in Cleveland, Ohio. Cleveland State won the doubles point with wins at No 1 and 2 and picked up wins in the first two singles matches to finish (No. 4 and 3) to go up 3-0 and needing just one win in the remaining four matches to seal the team victory. Manuella Eloundou won in three sets at No. 5 to cut the margin to 3-1, but the Vikings won in three sets at No. 1 to seal the victory, and
Katarina Dukic (No. 2) and
Amina Taibi (No. 6) picked up three-set wins for the Cougars to close the match.
"The girls came really close," head coach
Jack Barton said. "We were just a game away on Cali's (Fuller) court from having the match extended long enough for Keti (
Katarina Dukic)and Amina (Taibi) to win their matches and maybe put a little pressure on them. They did everything they could and they fought really hard. We had high hopes for this weekend and came up a bit short, but it wasn't due to lack of effort. I am a bit disappointed because we all sacrificed a lot to put ourselves in a position to win, and this week was important to be in a good position to win the regular season. I'm hopeful we can continue and play good tennis for the remaining conference schedule so we can make the conference tournament with a good seed."
