Box Score The Chicago State men's tennis team pulled out a 4-3 win over IUPUI Saturday afternoon at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club in Homewood. The win was the first for the Cougars in Horizon League play this season and knocked IUPUI out of contention for the conference tournament as the Jags had an outside shot of advancing prior to today's loss.
Chicago State earned the doubles point to get out to a great start and were up 2-0 following
Hugo Hidalgo Vega's win at No. 1 singles. IUPUI then reeled off three consecutive singles wins and were poised to pull out the come-from-behind victory before
Percy Siercke pulled out a three-set win at No. 6, leaving the outcome in the hands of
Pedro Alvarez at No. 2. Alvarez entered today's play 6-0 in Horizon League matches with an 11-match win streak and he delivered a straight set win to give the Cougars the 4-3 victory.
"The character of these guys showed today," head coach
Jack Barton said. "This season has been a struggle and getting wins has been difficult. Today the guys persevered and figured out how to get the win. They want to end the season on a positive note."
