Box Score The Chicago State women's tennis team clinched a spot in the Horizon League Tournament with a 5-2 win over IUPUI Saturday at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club in Homewood, Illinois. With the win, the Cougars are currently tied for third in the league standings with the top six teams advancing to Ann Arbor, Michigan to vie for the tournament title. Chicago State is tied with Northern Kentucky who the Cougars will host Sunday at 10 a.m. at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club in Homewood with the winner claiming the No. 3 seed and the loser the No. 4.
In today's match, the Cougars found themselves staring at an 0-2 hole after dropping the doubles point and
Amina Taibi suffering an injury which forced her to default in singles. CSU dominated singles play and didn't drop another match en route to a 5-2 victory.
"The ladies have got to understand that energy at the start of the match is important," head coach
Jack Barton said. "I don't care if we lose but if we lose without energy then it looks like we made no effort and that can be the downfall to singles. Luckily we were able to pick it up in singles and get out of a 2-0 hole. Tomorrow is an important match and we have to go in ready to play."
